COLUMBUS PET EXPO - PETLAND UPDATE
Monday - September 27
March 17, 2010
Dear Companion Pet Lovers ~
The luck of the Irish was upon the animals! PETLAND HAS WITHDRAWN AS A SPONSOR FOR THE 2010 COLUMBUS PET EXPO! (click here to read the Columbus Dispatch article, Petland quits Pet Expo amid pressure of boycott)
Below is the letter received from the Expo organizers. In addition to being pulled as a sponsor, we are also waiting confirmation from Steve Cantin that NO MONIES FROM PETLAND will be made to rescue groups! That letter is expected to be received tomorrow.
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! to everyone who signed our Petition, cross-posted our Petition and wrote personal letters/made calls to the Expo organizers! YOUR voice was heard and secured a MAJOR victory on behalf of the animals!
An additional letter of support will be mailed to everyone tommorrow, but we felt it was important to share this exciting news with you NOW!

LETTER FROM EXPO ORGANIZERS:
After speaking with Petland, The Sponsor of the Bird World demonstrations at The Columbus Pet Expo, they have withdrawn from the show, as they do not want to negatively effect The Columbus Pet Expo. Our Expo has, for over 15 years supported the efforts of over 40 Pet Rescue Groups. Through our efforts these 40 Non-Profit Rescue Groups and Shelters are able to adopt out hundreds of homeless animals. raise money, as well as secure a number of volunteers and foster homes to help their groups. Our goal has always been "THINK ADOPTION FIRST".
The Columbus Pet Expo has refunded the sponsorship fee of $4,000 to Petland, even though this will cause a lot of stress to our limited budget, (which pays for advertising and rental of the facility). Due to this loss of financial support we would greatly appreciate it if you would help us get the word out through emailing your friends, posting it on Facebook or any other means you have.
We have a great show this year and 100% of the proceeds from our NON-PROFIT CHARITY AUCTION being held Sunday, March 28th at 1 PM are being divided equally among the participating Pet Rescues. We have worked to get donations from Pet Manufacturers from around the US to use for this Non-Profit Charity Auction.
Please check out our website at http://www.facebook.com/l/b4245;www.columbuspetexpo.com for all the details on the show and if you sign up to win the Pet Food of your choice for a Year you will automatically be signed up for our Columbus Pet Expo Updates.
Your efforts are greatly appreciated and will help us reach our goal of having 200 applications to adopt pets approved from the PET EXPO. It is the policy of the Columbus Pet Expo and all the Pet Rescue Groups involved to make sure that all the people seeking to adopt pets from our show are qualified and that the pet they want to adopt is suited for their homes and lifestyle. This is something we have always stressed so the adopted pets do not end up at a Pet Rescue or Pet Shelter again.
We appreciate your concerns and hope you will join us in supporting the wonderful Rescue Groups associated with The Columbus Pet Expo.
Best regards,
Teresa LaRotonda
and M. Mythanne Reno
